Amy to target Nationals

27 July, 2009.
YOUTHFUL trainer Des Pollock is aiming for the stars, but first he has the president to overcome.
Des part-owns and trains promising staying bitch Miss Amy Jade (Bombastic Shiraz-Chilling Subject) who takes on Thursday night's President's Cup (710m) at Albion Park.
This follows her smart first-up 710m win at headquarters last week when she got up on the line to beat Dashing Top Hat in 42.31.
"We are aiming her for the Nationals so for her to be competitive in that, she has to race well against the top grade stayers in the President's Cup," said Des.
Des' father John has been the guiding hand behind his son's debut training efforts.
The Pollocks are confident Miss Amy Jade will improve on her debut 42.31 win, but it might not be untiol her third start over the distance.
"That's been the way she has improved from the moment she has gone into training," said John.
"She'll run good time first-up and the same at her next run. But then she will improve dramatically. She's done that over every distance we've put her."
Miss Amy Jade will go into Thursday night's Cup the most imexperienced of the runners having won four of her 11 race starts to date.
"We have pushed her to have her ready for the Nationals," said Des.
"She is probably a couple off weeks ahead of schedule but the race seems winnable on Thursday night."
Miss Amy Jade has overcome a few setbacks along the eway including time off for a seasons.
"But she's always been promising and we expect her to eventually get under 42 seconds over 710m at Albion Park," said Des.
John Pollock was particularly impressed with the bitch's finish to win last week.
"They put on a pretty slick middle section," said John. "The bitch was not entitled to finish as well as she did to win."
Miss Amy Jade was bred by astute Sydney breeder Chris Yong.
Yong said this week the dam Chilling Subject has a litter of Pure Octane pups to go up for sale soon.
