Astro has US interest

4 Feb, 2010.
ASTRO Hardy brilliantly won his heat of the Young Guns (520m) at Albion Park on Thursday night and already has a US connection.
The son of Trewly Special-Bacardi Cruiser is owned by Jane Apap and was formerly trained by Jane and husband Tony's daughter Christina.
Christina is on a five-month university stud tour in the US, based in Wisconsin.
When Christina left home, top trainer Christine Robartson and her husband Dave approached Tony about giving Astro Hardy a try in their kennel.
He is unbeaten in two starts for the Robartsons having won at Albion Park on Monday night.
"He's already won in 30.50 around Ipswich and when Christina left for the US, I really didn't have the time to take over the training of her couple of dogs," said Tony.
"When Dave and Christine said they were interested in giving him a try, I let him go."
Astro Hardy slipped 24.14 in a post to post trial at Albion Park for the Robartsons, running home in a flying 12.31 section.
He scored by five lengths in a fast 30.17 beating Velocity Regina with a neck to Lilly's Pride in third.
It was Astro Hardy's fourth win in 11 starts.
He had won a heat of the Eric Thomson Maiden at Albion Park in 30.40 in April last year.
A heavy fall at headquarters a few runs later, and then a toe joint injury has put him off the scene a couple of times.
His performance from the eight box on Thursday night was exceptional.
He began well but was headed off by Lilly's Pride around the first turn. He railed up inside the leader at the turn out of the back straight and then raced right away at the line.
"Christina has been checking up on his runs over the internet," said Tony.
"She'll have something to gloat about when she goes to uni tomorrow morning."
