Genuine makes an Impact

4 Feb, 2010.
"The harder we work, the luckier we get" is an old adage that always comes true, just ask Mary and Ray Burman.
The Burmans will go into next week's Young Guns final (520m) at Albion Park with three finalists, Fawn Magic, Genuine and Twin Impact.
Genuine (Surf Lorian-Bomber Babe) bounced right back to his best leading throughout to win his heat in 30.28.
He scored by three and a quarter lengths over Jim's Ability with four and a half lengths to Rebel Undercover in third.
It was his first run since injuring a toe in a heat of a Young Guns at headquarters back on January 7.
"We got the toe right and then kept him to our straight track at home," said Mary Burman of Genuine's successful return to the track.
The Burmans expected the win because Genuine was boxed perfectly in a wide draw. "He likes to use a bit of the track," said Mary.
Genuine has always shown great ability and the Burmans are confident he will live up to that now.
His litter sister Twin Impact rattled home to win her Young Guns heat in 30.41.
She scored by a length and three-quarters over Just As Serious with a length and three-quarters to Elite Sapphire in third.
The bitch was dropping back from 600m after winning the past two Monday nights over that journey.
"She had lost a bit of confidence so we had to step her up to 600 metres," said Mary of Twin Impact.
"It worked and it showed here tonight."
The bitch rattled home in the straight to wear down the leaders and win impressively.
Mary admitted she and husband Ray had tossed Twin Impact into the Young Guns series because it suited her program "and the race was on".
Mary whelped a litter of pups by Velocette from Skinny Shiraz, a sister to Technoman and Sonic Surf.
"She is the mother of a two-dog litter that includes Ima Hornet and Honey Magic," said Mary. "She had four pups by Velocette.
"It continues the Bombastic Shiraz theme we have had great success with of late. We took a punt on Velocette but he was an outstanding dog."
