Ryan knows he needs some Magic

8 Feb, 2010.
HIGHLY promising young bitch Beltah Magic goes into Thursday night's Young Guns final (520m) in need of some luck.
Breeder, owner and traienr Ryan Ayre knows that is the Kiowa Sweet-Trey-Holly Hotpants bitch's best chance of winning the rich final.
But he believes Beltah Magic has improvement in her from last week's close second in her Young Guns heat and says she will continue to improve.
"She's coming back form a hock injury she suffered after she won her Novice at Albion Park," said Ryan. "I've probably rushed her a bit, but she's fine and has a strong chance."
Beltah Magic rattled home in a sensational 11.75 final section when winning a graded final at Ipswich on February 2 in 30.96.
"She got a good run through at Ipswich and that final section is as good as you'll see," said Ryan.
Two days later Beltah Magic lined up at Albion Park for her Young Guns heat and ran winner Unlucky Ginga (Black Enforcer-All Cream) to a nose in a moderate 40.43.
Ryan has looked over the race a number of time and believes the early leader will come from either Unlucky Ginga off the rails and El Toreador (Primo Uno-Hannalore).
"There are a few hit and miss beginners in the final," he said. "I reckon Unlucky Ginga will lead off his rails box but he can only run about 30.40. That allows the backmarkers a chance."
Ryan knows Beltah Magic has "stayer" written all over her, but is adamant he will not be tempted to step her up in distance for some time.
"She's got the Futurity and Albion Park and the Auction at Ipswich coming up, so she won't get up to more distance until after those races," he said.
But while he admits Beltah Magic will need luck on Thursday night, he believes the bitch has a way of finding her own luck.
"She's never been out of a place in 10 starts," he said. "I don't think she really needs an inside box because she seems to be able to stay out of trouble.
"I rate her a strong place chance again."
Fastest heat winner Astro Hardy (Trewly Special-Bacardi Cruiser) is not well served from the five box.
He has been in the Christine Robartson kennel for only two starts both of which he won. He was brilliant in his 30.17 best-of-the-night heat victory last week.
Tombstone Jack (Surf Lorian-Alanna Princess) is obviously one of the most talented dogs in training but his first sections at his past four starts have not been better than 5.91.
From his eight box he will need a great deal of luck, but Tombstone Jack has a great habit of making his own luck.
