Pedro no upset for Claire

18 Feb, 2010.
PERFECT Pedro might have been $16 for a 600m 5th Grade at Albion Park on Thursday night, but trainer Claire Hogan was confident.
And the daughter of Where's Pedro-Perfect Shape led throughout to win by a length and three-quarters in 35.50.
It was her eighth victory in 29 starts and her third over 600m at headquarters.
She downed hot favourite Gold Sonata with a length and three-quarters to Captain Bravo in third.
Gold Sonata came from a long last to flash home late but the winner had too big a break.
Claire admitted Perfect Pedro's 710m race at headquarters three weeks ago had affected her.
"She was on her way back from a four-month seasonal break," said Claire. "We gave her a couple of 520m races at Ipswich and then put her straight into a 710m here."
Perfect Pedro led easily that night but found the distance too much for her lack of recent racing. "It knocked her about," said Claire.
Claire and husband Barry went back to the drawing board and dropped Perfect Pedro back to 600m.
The winner is a daughter of the Hogan's former star middle distance bitch Perfect Shape, and is from her second litter.
"The mother has just whelped a litter of pups to El Galo, one dog and two bitches," said Barry. "Perfect Shape has now had three litters and had three pups in each."
Perfect Pedro has always shown great ability.
She was third in the Group 2 Vince Curry Maiden at Ipswich last year.
"We have moved from acreage to a house block at Rosewood so we can only have two dogs in our kennels now," said Barry.
"But we are likely to breed with Perfect Pedro as well."
