Finally! for Aliwishus Jones

2 March, 2010.
VELOCITY Syndicate chief Steve Williams has had a special name kept for some time, a name he wanted to use on a special greyhound.
Aliwishus Jones is that dog, a son of Collision-Lankan Hope and he finally lived up to Steve's expectations at Albion Park on Monday night.
Aliwishus Jones won a maiden heat over 520m on a bog track in a flying 30.35 scoring by 12 and a half lengths, easily the best of the night.
The dog is trained by Shane Ellis at Morayfield and Shane is the first to admit Aliwishus Jones has been a headache.
"He has trialled under 25 seconds for 431m at Ipswich a couple of times, and has trialled 30.07 around Albion Park," said Shane.
"Lionel Whitehouse, who is also a syndicate member in the dog, has seen a few of those trials.
"But he hasn't really lived up to them. I've been doing a lot of miles in my car giving him box work and field work lately."
Aliwishus Jones was knocked down in heat and semi-final of the Star Maker Series at Lismore late last year.
"It didn't do his confidence much good," said Shane.
Ellis believes the dog could have broken 30 seconds on a dry track last night.
"He'll go into next week's final and then we'll take him to a Novice on a Thursday night," he said.
"He's just a slow learner."
Ellis has been training for the Velocity Syndicate for a couple of years and his former handy Albion Park performer Velocity Thunder has just whelped a litter of nine pups to Bombastic Shiraz.
"Steve and Lionel are great to train for," said Shane.
"They had quite a few dogs at breaking in last year and gave Tony (Brett) and I our choice. I liked this dog from the first."
