BABE CALLS IT QUITS
25 August, 2008. PROLIFIC Albion Park winning bitch Californian Babe has been retired. Owner-trainer Paul McIlveen said this today. The daughter of Surf Lorian-Awesome Cruiser retires with 15 wins, nine of them at Albion Park, and 47 placings. She earned $40,000 in stakes for McIlveen during her long career. "She won from 366 metres to 710 metres and won over 520m, 600m and 710m at Albion Park," he said. "The bitch was placed over 395m and I was very determined to get her to win over that distance to become the first dog to win over all four distances at Albion Park. "But it wasn't to be." McIlveen bought Californian Babe from Tom Noble as a pup to rear with Gotta Love Him the only pup from a litter he had bred. "I needed a mate for him and she turned out to be a fantastic one," said McIlveen. He is in the process of choosing a sire for the bitch for her first mating.
