Demolition of Albion Park Russ Hinze Grandstand 16/6/09

PRESS RELEASE - Demolition of Albion Park Raceway Russ Hinze Grandstand
Harness Racing Queensland and Greyhounds Queensland Limited have announced that the demolition of the Russ Hinze Grandstand at Albion Park Raceway has been confirmed.
The grandstand, built in 1983 and named in honour of the late racing minister Russ Hinze, was closed last June after independent engineers raised concerns about the structures stability.
The stand has remained closed since being declared unfit to accommodate its patrons and tenants.
After extensive dialogue, representatives from both organisations have secured financial arrangements with tenders now being called.
Relocation of infrastructure such as power, water and sewerage needs to be undertaken before the actual dismantling of the structure commences, making the demolition of the grandstand a complex process.
In conjunction with the demolition of the grandstand, Pacesetters Lounge at Albion Park is to be fully refurbished which will provide a better atmosphere for those attending future Harness and Greyhound race meetings.
