There are two grading guidelines
that need to be factored in when grading the greyhound Gozo Monique,
“Beat The Grader” and “Heats/Finals”.
These can be found on the GRA Website under Grading Guidelines, Grading Policy.
“Beat the Grader” (also known
as Pre-grading)
“Greyhounds that have been
pre-graded into two races of a similar Grade within a Class and are successful
in both will be penalised only one Grade”.
Eg: A greyhound is
nominated for Monday 09/01/06 and gains a start.
The same
greyhound is nominated for Thursday 12/01/06, (which is Drawn prior to Monday
09/01/06 race meeting commencing), and also gains a start.
(This is a ‘beat the grader’/pre-grading
situation).
NOTE: A greyhound will
only benefit from pre-grading if the greyhound is successful in winning both
events. Should the greyhound only win one of these events then there is no
benefit from being pre-graded.
Gozo Monique – Grading Class 1
* Brisbane Thurs 29/12/05
* Brisbane Mon (Heat) 02/01/06 Drawn
Wednesday (28/12/06) prior to Thursday night meeting 29/12/05.
*(Greyhound has been pre-graded, as per
example above)
**Brisbane Mon (Final) 09/01/06
**Brisbane Thurs 12/01/06 Drawn Monday (09/01/05) prior
to the Monday night meeting
*(Greyhound has been pre-graded, as per
example above)
**NOTE: In applying the pre-grading guideline any
Heat and/or Final are treated the same as any normal graded event.
“Heats/Final”
“In graded events which are not
regarded as non-penalty, a greyhound winning a heat, semi-final and final (or
any two of these) will be penalised only one (1) grade.
The grading of Gozo Monique as
shown above includes two separate pre-grading situations.
Both these “pre-grading”
situations are linked together by the greyhound winning both the Heat and Final
(as per the “Heats/Final” guideline).
By winning the Heat in the first
‘pre-grading” situation and the Final in the second “pre-grading situation all
four winning runs count as one 5th grade win.
**NOTE: In applying the pre-grading guideline any
Heat and/or Final are treated the same as any normal graded event.
- If the greyhound had not won the Heat and/or Final
it would have been graded as a 4th grade the following week
(Thursday 19/01/06).
- If the Heat and Final were normal graded races the
greyhound would also have been graded as a 4th grade the
following week.
NOTE: A greyhound will
only benefit from pre-grading if the greyhound is successful in winning both
events. Should the greyhound only win one of these events then there is no
benefit from being pre-graded.
Over the past few weeks the
Grading Department have received numerous calls regarding the Grading of Gozo
Monique. We hope this information will help licensees understand how “pre-grading”
and “heats/finals” work, so they too can benefit by using the
grading system to their own advantage.
The Grading Department believe
they have now fully explained the Grading of Gozo Monique and no further
correspondence will be entered into regarding this matter. The greyhound is
correctly graded as a 5th grade and is eligible to win one more 5th
grade on a Class 1 track.
As many licencees seem to be
upset or unable to understand the grading of Gozo Monique, it can be avoided in
the future by removing the “pre-grading” guideline from the Grading Policy.
Licencees are reminded that the Grading Policy is currently being advertised on
the GRA website for industry consultation. Submissions regarding the policy
close 3rd February.
