Mick Byrne
The greyhound community was saddened in the past
week with the passing of Mick Byrne.
Mick was a foundation member of the Brisbane Club in 1972 and was
present at the Gabba for the first night of greyhound racing held at the Gabba
track. Mick served on the Committee of the Brisbane Club from 1974 and was made
a Life Member in 1996.
Mick’s funeral was held on Wednesday 24 May. The
Club wishes to express our condolences to Club President Michael Byrne, Mick’s
wife Joy and their families.
Monday Run of the Night
Congratulations
to Tad Smarter and trainer Joe Menary for winning The Mad Chinaman’s Restaurant run of
the night for Monday 22 May.
Absolute Fury
Absolute Fury trained by Tom Noble broke the 395m
track record on Friday 19 May with a slashing 22.77 sec run. The Club have
recognised the achievement of breaking the track record by naming races 4 and 5
on tonight’s program after Tom and Absolute Fury. A presentation will be held trackside after the running of race
4.
Winter Chase Final
The Club’s major lead up to the Group 1 VIP Petfoods
Gold Cup will be staged tonight with the running of the Garrards Horse and
Hound Winter Chase Final. The Final pits Lucy’s Light against the up and coming
Miss Brook in what should be a thrilling affair. The other main hope is Miss Grub who chased home Miss Brook in
the heats last week. All three greyhounds are backmarkers so they will need to
work there way through the field. Zoe Sky (16.09 sectional) and Que
(15.99sectional) should set up a cracking early pace. A presentation to the
winner will be held trackside after the race.
Crackerjack Carnival Trophy
The Crackerjack Carnival will be held from Friday 2
June to Sunday 4 June 2006. The Brisbane Club holds the annual Crackerjack
Carnival Trophy each year. The Trophy race is race 8, the Best 8 over 520m.
Token Jet will start a short priced favourite, but is drawn between the fast
beginners Fire Boy and Tizza Hypo.
BGRC Web Site Update
Club Sponsor Dinky Di Web Designs are currently
working on the new BGRC Web Site. Our target is a go live date of 8 June – VIP
Petfoods Gold Cup Night.

Winter Carnival – Group 1 Nights
Please show your support for our premier nights by bringing family and
friends to SILKS on these nights. At
$32.50, with FREE ADMISSION it is a very affordable night out.
There will be plenty of entertainment on both nights, with the Gold Cup
being themed around “A Magic Night“.
While we’re certain of seeing plenty of magic on the track, the off
track entertainment will include roving magicians, The Phoenix Fire Tribe, kids
entertainers, a jumping castle, the Afghan Hounds racing, raffles and more.

Moonlight Farms
Moonlight Farms, who sponsor the Monday night Bonus
dog and the Thursday night Pick 6 Competition have kindly donated two services
to be used on Queensland Cup night (26 June).
Firstly there will be a free service to Your Awesome for the connections
of the winner of the Dave Brett Memorial Maiden. Your Awesome recently sired the first three placegetters of the
Group 2 New Zealand Sires Produce Stakes.
A free service to Harvey Bale will be presented to the connections of
the winner of the Queensland Cup.
The Club would like to thank Moonlight Farms for
their on-going support of greyhound racing at Albion Park.
Stewards Trials
As of 24 May, Stewards Trials will be available on
Wednesday trial mornings, as well as prior to race meetings.
Monday Maidens
Monday Maidens will be programmed from Monday 22 May as
Races 2 and 5.
Trebles, Doubles and Extra Doubles
From Thursday 18 May the

Following an open expression
of interest process the Club has entered into an arrangement with Corey Pearce
Photography for the provision of photographic services to the Brisbane
Greyhound Racing Club. Corey commenced on Monday 22 May 2006.

for use on trial morning Wed 7 June due to maintenance works.
