Monday Run of the Night

Congratulations to Lincoln Stanley and trainer Ted Le Man for winning The Mad Chinaman’s Restaurant run of the night for Monday 8 May. It was Best of Night 30.28 win for the Capalaba Track Record holder, with a strong run home of 12.75.

Leukaemia Foundation – World’s Greatest Shave

Thank you to all who supported the World’s Greatest Shave last Thursday night. A special thank you to Maree Heck,  Paul Dolan and Robert and Chantelle Newbury for their dedication to this cause. The event received great publicity on SKY Channel as several crosses were made during the course of the Shave and it was also featured on the Catching Pen on Sunday night.

Garrards Horse and Hound Jackpot Dog

Last Friday saw the first draw of the Garrards Horse and Hound Jackpot Dog. Who could have taken the odds on what happened last Friday?  The Race drawn was race one, the dog drawn was dog one – and it duly won. Congratulations to Keith Houghton who added the $190 Jackpot to the $510 first prizemoney cheque won by Kimbrae. The Houghton’s also received a $25 Voucher courtesy of Garrards Horse and Hound. It was a fantastic initial response to the Jackpot Dog incentive, with 38 dogs paid up. With that response, it wont take long for the Jackpot to steadily rise if not won.

Maturity Classic

Queensland was represented by four greyhounds in the heats of the Group 1 Maturity Classic at the Meadows last Saturday. The Lee Elgood trained Mr Raudonikis won his heat in 30.31.  Other results were:

Leica Ruby            7th

Moonlite Elite       5th

Ellie’s Diamond    3rd

Mr Raudonikis has drawn box 6 in Semi Final 2 this Saturday night and Ellie’s Diamond has drawn box 7 in Semi Final 4. Good luck to both greyhounds and their connections on Saturday.

Monday Maidens

I am pleased to inform licencees that the GRA after consultation with the Brisbane Club have decided to discontinue the late programming of Maiden races on a Monday night.  They will be programmed from Monday 22 May as Races 2 and 5.

Trebles, Doubles and Extra Doubles

After the three month trial period the GRA and the Brisbane Club have agreed to move the treble and double races back to their original races. From Thursday 18 May the following will apply:

Treble on races 6,7 & 8

Double on races 7 & 8

Extra Double on races 3 & 4

Thursday Night Dining – Winter Carnival

The Club is also pleased to announce that after consultation with the Complex’s caterers, new menu items will available during the Winter Carnival. Commencing Thursday 18 May, the Chef’s Grill will be available from 6pm – 8pm. At this point there will be a choice of two freshly cooked menu items, with a steak and a seafood option.

We have booked in six Thursday nights as a trial and the continuation of this initiative is dependent on the response received.  Those dates are:

May 18, 25

June 1, 15,22

July 13

These items will not be available on the two Group 1 Final nights – make sure you book into SILKS for these nights !!

Obviously we are keen to have a positive response and I will welcome feedback and suggestions which I will take to the Caterers.

Westar Kennels

John and Wendy Hutchison have kindly donated 10 double tickets to SILKS for our Group 1 Final nights to be given away as prizes.  We will conduct a draw for each of the next five meetings for the first five double passes for the Gold Cup on 8 June. The draws will be conducted like the Jackpot Dog draw – and the trainer of the greyhound drawn will win the double pass. Our thanks go to John and Wendy for this kind gesture.

GAP on Totally Wild

There will be a story on “Blue” – a Greyhound Adoption Program dog on Channel 10's Totally Wild program this Friday at 4pm.  This will give the GAP Program excellent exposure and hopefully lead to more greyhounds being placed through the program.

The GAP greyhounds will also be appearing on our Group 1 Final nights, so that the general public can have a close up experience with retired greyhounds.

Winter Carnival – Group 1 Nights

The Promotional brochure for our Winter Carnival is attached to today’s Albion Angle.  Please show your support for our premier nights by bringing family and friends to SILKS on these nights.  At $32.50, with FREE ADMISSION it is a very affordable night out.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU BOOK WELL IN ADVANCE

Children At Trials

We have had instances in recent weeks where children have been playing unsupervised near the track on trial nights. This is a very dangerous practice and has the potential to distract staff and greyhounds during the conduct of trials. It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to supervise children while at the trials. Please ensure that they do not play or run near the track.
