Stewards opened an Inquiry at 10.30am in relation to
the urine sample numbered 243163 taken from the greyhound
“CHECK YA POCKETS” which competed on the 2nd
of January 2007 at the Gold Coast Greyhound Club Meeting
in Race 2 (placed 1st) and subsequently returned positive
to the drug Dexamethasone.
Stewards directed Trainer Mr. Jamie McHugh of Mount Warren
Park to appear along with Mr. Paul Cauchi of Tugun.
Stewards took evidence from Trainer Mr. Jamie McHugh
and Mr. Paul Cauchi.
Stewards subsequently charged the Trainer under GAR
123 (1) which states: Any person who administers, attempts
to administer or causes to be administered, aids or abets
any person to administer, or has any prior knowledge of
a drug being administered to a greyhound for the purpose
of effecting its performance or behaviour in any event
or preventing it from starting in an Event shall be guilty
of an offence and liable to a penalty pursuant to Rule
131.
Mr. McHugh pleaded guilty as charged.
Mr. McHugh was suspended for a period of 3 months and
fined $750.
The greyhound “CHECK YA POCKETS ” was disqualified
from Race 2 at the Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club meeting
on the 2nd of January 2007.
Connections were directed to return the prizemoney to
the Greyhound Racing Authority.
Mr. McHugh was read his rights of Appeal at the conclusion
of the Inquiry.
