Stewards convened an Inquiry on the 23rd of October 2008
in relation to the urine sample numbered 265767 taken
from the greyhound “ELITE SOVEREIGN” which
competed on the 26th of August 2008 at the Brisbane Greyhound
Racing Club in Race 9 (placed 4th) and subsequently returned
positive to the drug’s Theobromine, Theophylline
and Paraxanathine.
Stewards directed trainer Mr. Steven Smith of Beachmere
to appear.
Evidence was taken from Mr. Smith and Mr. Smith Snr.
Stewards charged the trainer under GAR 83 (2)
(a) (d) which states;
(2) The owner, trainer or person in charge of a greyhound
(a) nominated to compete in an Event
(d) shall present the greyhound free of any drug
Mr. Smith pleaded guilty as charged
Mr. Smith was disqualified for 6 months and fined $250.
Stewards disqualified the greyhound “ELITE SOVEREIGN”
under GAR 83 (5) (a) (b) from Race 9 (placed 4th) at the
Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club meeting on the 26th of
August 2008.
Prizemoney must be returned to Greyhounds Queensland.
Mr. Smith was read his rights of Appeal at the conclusion
of the Inquiry.
Local Rule 26(QLD) - unless the Authority determines
otherwise-
(a) a greyhound trained on or at premises at which a disqualified
or suspended person resides shall not be eligible to compete
in any event;
(b) a greyhound owned or trained by a disqualified or
suspended person as at the date of the suspension or disqualification
or at any time since the date of the offence resulting
in the suspension or disqualification, shall not during
the period of suspension or disqualification be owned
or trained by the spouse or partner of the suspended or
disqualified person or by any person who resides at the
premises at which the suspended or disqualified person
resides.
