Stewards opened an Inquiry in relation to a complaint lodged by the owner of the greyhound “MAKIA’S FURY” Mrs. Jillian Herr, into the reason “MAKIA’S FURY” being euthanased on the 3rd December 2007.

Stewards directed Ms. Cristy Godfrey and Mr. Denis Godfrey to appear at the Cairns Greyhound Racing Club.

Stewards accepted evidence from Ms. Cristy Godfrey, Mr. Denis Godfrey and Mr. Rodney Herr by telephone. Stewards also accepted written submissions by Mr.s Jillian Herr, Mr. Tony Zammit and Mr. Nathan Goodwin relating to the matter.

As a result, Stewards charged licenced trainer Ms. Cristy Godfrey under GAR 125(1)(a) (o) which states: Any person (including and Official) who (a) contravenes any of these Rules (o) has, in addition to a greyhound or greyhound racing, done a thing, or omitted to do a thing, which, in the opinion of the Stewards or the Board/Commission, as the case may be, is negligent, dishonest, corrupt, fraudulent or improper, or constitutes misconduct.

Ms. Godfrey pleaded guilty to the charge.

Ms. Godfrey was fined $500 and suspended for 6 months.

The 6 months suspension was totally suspended for a period of 12 months.

Ms. Godfrey was read her rights of Appeal at the conclusion of the Inquiry.
